Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.
- Promoting a healthy work-life balance is a priority that goes beyond just “lip service” at the mid-size AmLaw 200 firm Pryor Cashman, says managing partner Ron Shechtman. When he sees reports of larger firms boosting bonuses for associates working “unsustainable” hours, he said, “I know that is a path to burnout.” (Above The Law)
- The embattled crypto exchange Binance has hired a new chief compliance officer, Lesley O’Neill. O’Neill, who has worked at Milbank in the law firm’s security assurance and privacy compliance department, says she’s looking forward to deepening Binance’s “commitment to accountability and transparency.” (Binance.US)
- Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards will be joining Fishman Haygood, which has offices in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, after he leaves office on Jan. 8, the firm announced. Edwards, a Democrat, will play “a leading role” in renewable energy work, including low- and no-carbon projects, as a special counsel with the firm. (Fishman Haygood)
- Scarinci Hollenbeck will grow by about 25% after its merger with the Warren Law Group in Manhattan. The merger will bring Scarinci, a New Jersey and New York business law firm, to 73 lawyers, though the firm says it aims to expand to between 75-100 lawyers, as it tries to gain market share from companies balking at Big Law firm rate hikes.
