Wake Up Call: IT Outage Spurs Broad Legal Service ‘Disruption’

  • A UK-based IT service provider for law firms has suffered a service outage from an unspecified cyber incident that has caused “ongoing widespread disruption across the legal sector.” As many as 80 law firms have been affected by the cyberattack, leaving then unable to access case files.   • Weil, Gotshal & Manges has been collecting photos of potential summer associate applicants, raising concerns about whether the firm is discriminating on the basis of race. Weil may have violated guidance on federal civil rights laws by asking students with Northwestern Law School’s Latino Law Students Association to provide optional headshots to assess candidates. (Washington Free Beacon)
  • Dechert’s international arbitration group in Paris will be splitting from the firm to form a boutique. Dechert’s practice, co-chaired by Eduardo Silva Romero, includes six partners and 10 associates, according to the firm’s website. (Law.com)

  • Jon Daly has joined Locke Lord as a partner in the corporate and transactional practice group in Houston. He joins from Sidley Austin.
  • John Lanza has joined Foley Hoag as a partner in the intellectual property department and technology industry group in Boston, Mass. He joins from Foley & Lardner.
  • Michael Rome has joined Willkie Farr & Gallagher as a partner in the Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. He previously served as regulatory and litigation counsel at Google.
  • John Pierce has joined Kilpatrick as a partner and will be a member of the energy practice in the Seattle, Wash. He joins from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan.
  • Luke Lado has joined Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in the banking and finance practice in the London office.
