Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.
- Felony forgery charges were filed Tuesday in Wisconsin against Donald Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro and another attorney, Jim Troupis, for submitting paperwork falsely claiming that Trump won the state in the 2020 election. Though one prominent GOP official in the state called the charges “outrageous,” Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, said, “our approach has been focused on following the facts where they lead.” (Associated Press)
- Columbia Law Review’s board of directors pulled “the entire website offline” on Monday after apparently objecting to a paper from human rights lawyer Rabea Eghbariah that the law review had published online about the oppression of Palestinians. According to seven law review editors, board members pressured the law review’s leadership “to delay and even rescind publication.” (The Intercept)
- Debevoise & Plimpton partner Jyotin “Joe” Hamid will be the next co-chair of the firm’s litigation department, starting July 1. Hamid will succeed Mary Beth Hogan, who is retiring at the end of this year, after 33 years with the firm. The practice’s other co-chair, Andrew Ceresney, will continue in the role. (Debevoise)
