Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.
- Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft struck a deal with President Trump intended to secure the future of New York’s oldest law firm. Instead the pact is backfiring, adding to an exodus of lawyers that has placed the firm on uncertain footing. (Wall Street Journal)
- Three things in life are important: The first is to be kind, the second is to be kind, and the third is to be kind. That’s Harvard University Law professor Martha Minow quoting one of the school’s most prominent dropouts, Henry James. She was one of four professors selected by class marshals to impart wisdom and advice in a Last Lecture to the graduating Class of 2025. (Harvard Law Today)
- The Lakewood, N.J., Board of Education paid board attorney Michael Inzelbuch more than $6 million since 2017, and the district also shelled out hundreds of thousands for additional legal work during the same period. It’s unclear why Lakewood Schools required the expertise of another high-priced lawyer, Matthew Boxer of Lowenstein Sandler, or what work he performed. (Asbury Park Press)
- The University of Chicago Law School named Adam Chilton as its next dean. Chilton currently serves as the Howard G. Krane Professor of Law and Walter Mander Research Scholar at the school, and is due to take on his new role on July 1. (Above the Law)
