Wake Up Call: Mayer Brown Grows in Paris With Seven-Partner Team

July 10, 2024, 11:00 AM UTC

Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • Mayer Brown has landed a seven-partner M&A and private equity team in Paris that will be jumping to the firm from Ayache, a “leading independent French law firm,” on Jan. 1, 2025. Mayer’s news release doesn’t list the names of the partners making the move, save one: Bernard Ayache, his firm’s co-managing partner. (Mayer Brown)
  • An attorney formerly with Latinos for Trump, Kellye SoRelle, is set to plead guilty for her role in the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol. SoRelle has been charged with obstruction of an official proceeding, and with obstructing justice for allegedly telling other Jan. 6 protesters to delete information from their phones. (Newsweek)
  • Fennemore Craig is promoting a new work-from-home program through “Fennemore Forward,” which allows its lawyers “to work permanently from nearly anywhere in the world.” The prevailing “BigLaw view” that the only way to build culture is to force everyone onsite almost every day, “is antiquated, fails to meet people where they are in life, and leads to a limiting one-size-fits-all view of the profession,” said Fennemore CEO James Goodnow.
