Wachtell’s Marty Lipton is updating his guidance on ESG investing and corporate governance amid the rise of attacks on “woke” companies. The gist is the same. “The role of corporations as essential drivers of economic growth is inseparable from the broader societal context in which they operate,” the veteran deals lawyer and firm cofounder writes. Orrick’s recent layoffs were prompted by the tech industry slowdown, according to CEO Mitch Zuklie. The firm, which cut about 90 lawyers and staff, draws about half of its overall revenue from tech work. “Things haven’t fallen off a cliff, but they haven’t been on fire,” Zulkie said. (Law.com)

OpenAI has doubled its in-house lawyer roster in recent months as the company deals with growing regulatory issues. New additions include lawyers from Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission. (Corporate Counsel)
