Wake Up Call: Lawyer Seeks Diddy Accusers Via Hotline, Instagram

Oct. 16, 2024, 11:00 AM UTC

Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • Personal injury lawyer Tony Buzbee launched a hotline and Instagram campaign to find accusers of Sean “Diddy” Combs, hoping to bring lawsuits against the rapper as he faces federal sex trafficking charges. Buzbee has already filed six lawsuits against Combs on behalf of clients, and has said that he has a team of 100 screeners and 30 lawyers working to identify potential cases. (The New York Times)
  • Daniel Horwitz, a civil rights attorney, is challenging a federal district court’s order that he desist making comments about a private prison contractor he has filed numerous lawsuits against. US District Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Frensley threatened Horwitz with contempt if he continued to comment on the contractor, after which Horwitz ceased talking to the press about the cases. • Lawyers representing a man suing the city of Philadelphia were ordered to apologize to residents after they blared a looped recording of a woman screaming for an hour. The lawyers said they were testing a key issue in the lawsuit, whether the man, who was convicted of sexual assault and said he was trying to help the victim, could have heard the woman’s screams from two blocks away.
