  • Latham & Watkins is ending the automatic access its Hong Kong lawyers have to international databases, in the wake of new Chinese anti-espionage laws. Beijing’s tighter grip on the territory “is forcing global firms to rethink the way they operate.” (Financial Times)
  • Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe says his “friend and former student” Attorney General Merrick Garland deserves some of the blame in allowing special counsel Robert Hur to “overstep” in his report’s comments about President Joe Biden’s memory. "(H)e has bent too far backwards in order to avoid seeming pro-Biden,” said Tribe. (Salon)
  • Dentons’ UK, Ireland and Middle East region has tapped Paul Jarvis to serve a second three-year term as chief executive officer, to commence on May 1. Jarvis, a banking and finance partner based in the firm’s Abu Dhabi office, replaced Jeremy Cohen as the region’s CEO in 2021. (Law.com)
  • Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes compared himself to a “top-tier” lawyer in Monday’s media pool. “Someone that has to think on his feet, execute at the right time and deal with high-pressure situations,” said the three-time Super Bowl-winning QB. (USA Today)

  • James Danly has rejoined Skadden as a partner and head of the energy regulatory group in Washington, D.C. He has served as a commissioner, chairman, and general counsel of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Bridget McGovern has joined Squire Patton Boggs as a partner in its public policy practice in the Washington, D.C., office. She previously served at the US Department of Homeland Security as assistant secretary for trade and economic security as well as the director for public policy, payments, at Uber Technologies.
  • Matthew Madden has rejoined McDermott Will & Emery as a partner in its litigation practice group. He served as the chief of the criminal division at the US Attorney’s Office in Chicago.
  • Ryan Blaney has joined Jones Day as a partner in the cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection practice in the Washington office.
  • Stephanie Reed Traband has joined McCarter & English as a partner with the bankruptcy, restructuring, and litigation group in Miami. She will also be a part of the alternative dispute resolution and mediation group.
  • Alex Amos will join Kirkland & Ellis as a partner in its investment funds group. He served as a partner at Macfarlanes.
  • Eric Enson has joined Crowell & Moring as a partner with the antitrust and competition group in its Los Angeles office. He joins from Jones Day.
  • Blaine Lamperski and John Bonaccorsi have joined Clark Hill as part of the real estate team in Pittsburgh, Pa.
  • Angela Hsu has joined Seyfarth Shaw as a partner in the real estate department in Atlanta. Hsu recently served as a partner at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.
  • Elizabeth Tosaris has joined Michelman & Robinson as a partner in the regulatory and administrative law practice group in the San Francisco office.
