  • Lawyers for ICE provided false information to justify arresting and detaining thousands of people who had attended immigration courts, according to court documents. Federal prosecutors said lawyers for the agency acknowledged that a DHS memo gave no authorization for arrests, despite previously citing it to justify the arrests. (The Guardian)
  • Pope Leo XIV tapped Australian church lawyer Bishop Anthony Randazzo to serve as the Holy See’s chief legal expert. Randazzo succeeds Archbishop Filippo Iannone, whom Leo named to take over his old job at the Vatican office that vets bishop nominations. (Associated Press)
  • Kansas legislators want the state to pay local law students a stipend if they promise to practice in rural areas upon graduation. Legislators also want to repay the student loans of working rural attorneys. Eligible students can receive up to $3,000 each school year for tuition, fees, books, supplies, or other school-related expenses. (Kansas Reflector)
