Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.
- DOJ prosecutors face a “wrenching” decision about whether they should prosecute Boeing Co. over charges that the aerospace giant committed fraud conspiracy in connection with 2018 and 2019 crashes. The case is “so sensitive” that Attorney General Merrick Garland has personally edited some of the agency’s court briefs. (Wall Street Journal)
- “White-show” law firms like Latham & Watkins; Paul, Weiss; Ropes & Gray; and Cravath, Swaine & Moore are losing “hundreds of millions” in potential fees because of media heiress Shari Redstone’s last-minute decision not to merge Paramount with Skydance Media. Latham alone had as many as 100 lawyers advising Skydance on the combination. (New York Post)
- Paul, Weiss has brought on former Google senior lawyer Ludovic Ghesquiere “in the latest iteration of its expansion plan.” The move recruit Ghesquiere, who will split his time between London and California as an antitrust partner, comes as the firm has been “building out” its overseas footprint, including by poaching from competitors and bulking up in London and Brussels.
