Wake Up Call: Clooney Justice Group Hires Two Lawyers as Co-CEOs

  • Warner Bros. Pictures’ former general counsel David Sagal and Emma Lindsay, a former partner with the Withersworldwide law firm, have been named co-CEOs of a foundation run by human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and her husband, movie star George Clooney. Sagal will direct the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s operations, while Lindsay will oversee its justice programs. (Associated Press)
  • Clyde & Co. has admitted to anti-money laundering “failures” involving ship purchase deals. The firm and former senior partner Ed Mills-Webb face big fines for not conducting background checks on clients involved with vessel purchaes. (TradeWinds)
  • Adobe Inc. General Counsel Dana Rao said the software company filed and issued a record number of patents in 2023, which is “great” because it reflects consistent innovation in the face of tough competition. “We’ve always believed that we’re going to win in the marketplace if we innovate,” he said.   • Tammy C. Davies has joined Morrison Foerster as a partner in the finance group in New York.
  • Lisa P. Shevlin has joined Littler Mendelson as a shareholder in Portland, Ore. She joins from Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith.
  • Katy Spillers has joined Locke Lord’s corporate and transactional practice group as an equity partner in Los Angeles. She practiced as a partner at Greenberg Glusker.
  • Celeste Letourneau has joined Troutman Pepper as a partner with the health sciences transactional practice group in Washington, D.C.
  • David Haber has joined Brown Rudnick as a partner with the corporate practice in New York. He previously practiced at WilmerHale, Brobeck Phlegher & Harrison, and Weil Gotshal.
  • Brett E. Moskowitz has joined Moore & Van Allen as a member with the financial services group. He joins from Mayer Brown.
  • Carolyn Small has joined Jenner & Block as a special counsel with the investigations, compliance, and defense practice in Los Angeles. She served as an assistant US attorney in the major frauds section of the criminal division in the Central District of California.
  • David D’Urso and Elazar Guttman have joined Sidley’s M&A and private equity practice in New York from Akin Gump.
  • Michael Robles and Brian O’Sullivan have joined Husch Blackwell as partners in the insurance practice group through the virtual Link office. They join from Crowell & Moring.
  • Clay Taylor has joined Dentons LLP as a partner with the restructuring, insolvency, and bankruptcy practice in Dallas.
  • Mintz & Gold is launching a new tax practice that will be led by partners Howard Topaz and Philip Altman. They were most recently partners at Hogan Lovells in New York.
  • Robert Marshall has joined Kitson Boyce as a partner on the private client team in Exeter, England. He joins from Foot Anstey.
  • Eckert Seamans has named Raymond C. Vogliano chair of the tax, estates, and employee benefits practice and Deanne M. O’Dell co-chair of the utilities practice group.
  • Drew Hermiller and Eileen Kuo have joined Lockton as senior vice presidents in the transaction liability team with a focus on tax insurance.
