- IP appellate attorney Mark Davies joins from Orrick
- Davies’ clients have included Apple, Sonos, Nvidia
White & Case has hired Mark Davies, who has made frequent court appearances on behalf of Apple Inc., in extending a hiring spree in the technology and intellectual property space.
Davies, a Washington, DC-based appellate lawyer who typically practices in front of the Federal Circuit and International Trade Commission, will be a partner in White & Case’s IP practice and technology industry group. He joins from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he once led the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate litigation practice.
“Mark’s work is at the forefront of legal issues in the IP technology space, involving novel issues related to artificial intelligence, standard-setting, and patent damages,” said Yar Chaikovsky, head of the firm’s IP practice, in a statement.
Davies’ arrival follows White & Case’s March 2023 hiring of Silicon Valley IP litigators Phil Ou and Chaikovsky from Paul Hastings. Davies’ former partner at Orrick, Jordan Coyle, also joined White & Case last September.
Davies has made more than 30 federal court appearances in patent and other disputes on Apple’s behalf since 2007, according to Bloomberg Law litigation analytics.
His other major clients have included Nvidia Corp. and Sonos Inc. He and a team from Orrick have represented Sonos in disputes with Alphabet Inc.'s Google over issues such as the tech giant’s smart speaker products.
White & Case, with tech clients including Microsoft Corp. and TikTok Inc., reported $2.9 billion in revenue last year, making it among the 10 largest firms in the US, according to American Lawyer data. The firm’s $3.2 million in profits per equity partner last year marked a 13% increase from 2022.
On top of its hiring in the patent space, White & Case earlier this year hired Paul Weiss partner Taurie Zeitzerto co-head its private equity group.
