Oct. 20, 2023, 11:00 AM UTC

Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • Partner pay for top lateral movers and star performers is rising in Washington at Big Law firms such as Hogan Lovells and Quinn Emanuel. A small but growing number of DC partners are demanding and getting more than $5 million, with a select few making between $15 million and $20 million. (Law.com)
  • An attorney representing former president Donald Trump was told he needs to apply to the bar for the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit to be able to contest the gag order imposed on Trump in the federal election case. Court clerks told John Lauro, with Lauro & Singer in Tampa, Florida, that he needs to be a member of that bar if he wants his filings accepted. (Newsweek)
  • Logic games will be removed from the LSAT beginning with the exam next August, after the Law School Admission Council decided to focus on a test “designed to ensure that every test taker can demonstrate their logical reasoning skills.” The logic games exam segment, which described scenarios or sets of rules and asked questions about them, were derided by some as overly difficult gauges that had little to do with the practice of law.
