Jan. 24, 2025, 12:00 PM UTC

Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • Mark Lemley, the attorney who dropped Meta Platforms Inc. as a client in a high-profile copyright case because he disagreed with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s “toxic masculinity,” said in an interview that people who “can bear the cost” to speak up should do so. He decided to air his views on social media because he wanted to make clear that stepping away “wasn’t a function of anything in the case.” (Wired)
  • A former partner at McDermott Will & Emery is leading a new alternate legal services provider company called NomosFIT, with a roster of on-demand senior and mid-career lawyers. Led by Chief Executive Officer Ellen Tenenbaum, the company has recruited around three dozen attorneys, many of them retired general counsels, chief executives, or private practitioners. (Legal Dive)
  • SurePoint Technologies, which provides law firms with financial and client management software, bought the legal practice management company ZenCase, which offers document automation and time and knowledge management tools. The acquisition stems from clients’ demand for a front-office practice management platform, SurePoint’s CEO said. (Law.com)
