NY Court Blocks Long Island Transgender Sports Ban, For Now

New York judges on Wednesday blocked enforcement of a Nassau County law banning transgender girls and women from participating in female sports at county-run facilities.

The New York Supreme Court Second Appellate Department said the trial court “improvidently exercised its discretion” when in January it rejected a preliminary injunction request from women’s flat track roller derby team the Long Island Roller Rebels.

The decision comes just two days after Nassau County Supreme Court Justice R. Bruce Cozzens granted summary judgment to the county in two separate lawsuits brought by Attorney General Letitia James (D) and the Roller Rebels.
