Long Island Roller Derby Team Unable to Stop Transgender Ban

A New York State judge on Monday upheld a Nassau County law banning transgender girls and women from participating in female sports at county-run facilities.

Nassau County Supreme Court Justice R. Bruce Cozzens said in two separate opinions granting summary judgment to the county that the local law “is narrowly tailored” to provide a safe environment for people who are born female to play sports. It “does not categorically exclude transgender individuals from athletic participation,” nor does the county deny transgender individuals access to the athletic facilities, he added.
