Epic Systems Nets $6 Million in Interest-Accrual Court Victory

Epic Systems is entitled to post-judgment interest on punitive damages dating back to 2017, the Seventh Circuit found Wednesday, even though the punitive damages award in the trade-secrets case was revised downward in the years following.

The decision by Judge Frank Easterbrook came less than a week after the software company argued against a 2022 starting point for the interest calculation.

It may signal a close to the extraordinarily lengthy litigation between Epic and Tata Consultancy Services, which was found to have stolen Epic’s information in what Easterbrook’s opinion called “brazen and outrageous misconduct.”
