Seinfeld Wins Fees in ‘Comedians in Cars’ Copyright Case

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld can recover attorneys’ fees he spent beating a seemingly “opportunistic” copyright lawsuit over his “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” series, a New York district court ruled.

Writer and director Christian Charles sued Seinfeld in 2018, claiming the idea for the show was his. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York threw out the suit the following year, finding Charles brought the claim too late.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed Seinfeld’s win in May.
