Jerry Seinfeld Beats ‘Comedians in Cars’ Copyright Claims

A Jerry Seinfeld collaborator can’t sustain claims that he co-owns copyrights related to Seinfeld’s talk show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” the Southern District of New York said.

Writer and director Christian Charles’s claims were time-barred because he’s been on notice of the claims since 2012, the court said Sept. 30.

Seinfeld has worked with Charles on projects since the 1990s. Charles says he initially suggested the idea of “a television show based on the concept of two friends talking and driving” to Seinfeld, and his production company shot a pilot of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” with Seinfeld in ...
