Musk’s X Corp. Settles Legal Marketing Firm’s Trademark Suit (1)

Elon Musk-owned social media platform X Corp. reached a settlement with a legal marketing firm that shares the company’s name.

Musk’s X and X Social Media LLC filed a joint stipulation of dismissal Monday, which was ordered by Judge John Antoon II in the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The legal marketing firm said in its 2023 lawsuit that Musk’s platform—previously known as Twitter—knew of its trademarks before it rebranded. Antoon ruled in July 2024 that X Social Media had cleared the bar to survive X Corp.'s motion to dismiss.

The dispute wasn’t the only trademark lawsuit against Musk’s platform since its name change. Another social media marketing firm, DB Communications LLC, which does business as Multiply, sued in July last year, saying the stylized “X” logo infringed its marks. The parties voluntarily dropped all claims and counterclaims in the suit earlier this year.

Musk also faces trademark infringement allegations beyond the social media platform, most recently from a gaming and blockchain technology company that alleged in an August lawsuit that Musk’s AI firm X.AI Corp. tried to “bully” the firm into into relinquishing its trademark rights.

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and King, Blackwell, Zehnder & Wermuth PA represent Musk’s X. Gerben Perrott PLLC represents X Social Media.

The case is X Social Media LLC v. X Corp., M.D. Fla., No. 6:23-cv-01903, dismissed with prejudice 9/15/25.
