Mattel Must Keep Defending Trademark Suit Over Monster Jam Toys

Mattel Inc. lost its bid May 8 to dismiss a trademark dispute brought by an old business partner over a line of Monster Jam toy trucks.

Feld Motor Sports Inc. licensed Monster Jam marks and designs to Mattel for several years until the companies parted ways in 2018. Mattel’s new Hot Wheels toys look very similar to the previously licensed Monster Jam toys, and Mattel acted in bad faith in the final months of their licensing agreement by purposefully holding back stock from store shelves to reduce sales, FMS claims.
