Court Clears Path for Publix Appeal in Opioid Insurance Fight

A Florida federal court entered a final ruling in favor of insurers—including units of Chubb Ltd., Berkshire Hathaway Inc., and Hartford Insurance Group Inc.—in an opioid coverage dispute with Publix Super Markets Inc. at the supermarket giant’s request, opening the door for it to appeal the decision.

Similar cases over insurance coverage for opioid-related lawsuits are being litigated before state and federal courts across the country, as both insurers and policyholders seek answers on who will bear the expense of the costly underlying litigation.
