US Pauses Crypto Energy Use Survey After Industry Lawsuit (4)

The Energy Information Administration is no longer pursuing its emergency collection of energy use data from cryptocurrency companies, following a lawsuit from an industry association and one of its members.

The agency sent a letter to the Office of Management and Budget requesting that it approve EIA’s discontinuance of the emergency authorization.

The Texas Blockchain Council and Riot Platforms Inc. sued to stop the collection, saying they would be “irreparably harmed” if they had to divulge proprietary information. The groups won their bid for a temporary restraining order on Feb. 23 to block implementation of the survey.
