The Senate Appropriations Committee voted to reduce the US Department of Labor’s funding levels for the next fiscal year only slightly, as Republicans seek more drastic cuts to the agency’s budget.
The panel voted 26-2 Thursday to appropriate $13.5 billion in discretionary funding for the DOL, representing about $300 million in cuts from FY 2023.
The figure is more than $1 billion short of what President Joe Biden had requested for the agency, but it provides the administration a much rosier outlook than the 29% cut sought by House Republicans.
