High-Skilled Workers’ H-1B Visa Limit Reached for Fiscal 2023

Registrations for H-1B specialty occupation visas have reached the numerical cap for fiscal year 2023, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Tuesday.

The visas—in high demand in the tech industry—allow recipients to work in the U.S. for three years with an option to renew for another three. Up to 85,000 visas are available each year, including 20,000 for workers with master’s degrees.

USCIS did not immediately release the number of registrations submitted. The agency, a unit of the Department of Homeland Security, has used a lottery system in recent years to select registrants because of overwhelming interest.
