The annual cap on H-1B visas for high-skilled immigrant workers was reached for fiscal 2022, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced this week.
USCIS received more than 300,000 registrations for the fiscal 2022 H-1B lottery, surpassing the previous record high in fiscal 2021. The program has a congressionally mandated cap of 65,000 regular H-1B visas and another 20,000 for applicants with advanced degrees.
The visas are especially popular in the tech industry. The registration period for the fiscal 2023 H-1B visa lottery opened Tuesday.
