Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.
- Proskauer Rose ‘silently’ laid off 22 business professionals in August, three months before the firm announced it would be boosting its associates’ salaries and bonuses. Proskauer’s actions are consistent with “a slew” of other Big Law firms making similar end-of-year staff cuts, including associate layoffs. (Law.com)
- A healthcare boutique in Austin, Texas is offering its most senior associates bonuses up to $310,000, an amount sure to make their hearts “skip a beat.” Because of the firm’s “extreme generosity,” several associates earned more than $700,000 in total comp this year. (Above the Law)
- Colorado leaders are seeking $600,000 from the state legislature to hire four lawyers to prosecute gun cases in federal court. The lawyers, who would be “loaned out” to the feds, will operate out of the U.S. attorney’s office and will target convicted felons who are not allowed to buy or possess firearms. (The Colorado Sun)
