Wake Up Call: Giuliani Hires Divorce Lawyer in Legal Battle

Nov. 22, 2024, 12:00 PM UTC

Welcome to Bloomberg Law’s Wake Up Call, a daily rundown of the top news for lawyers, law firms, and in-house counsel.

  • Rudy Giuliani hired Staten Island divorce lawyer Joseph Cammarata to represent him in his ongoing legal battle with two Georgia election workers who hold a $146 million defamation judgment against him. The move comes as the former mayor’s previous lawyers in the case, Kenneth Caruso and David Labkowski walked away from the case. (The New York Times)
  • DLA Piper faces a legal malpractice suit filed by two Houston companies that allege misconduct by a “fake lawyer” employed at the firm in Argentina who was not licensed as an attorney but was held out by the firm as one qualified to give them legal advice. Plaintiffs Noble Generation, a project development company, and Caelum Capital, which handles financing, seek more than $1 million in damages. (Law.com)
  • Pennsylvania State University won American Bar Association approval to consolidate its two separate law schools into one, ending a two-year bid to unify the schools. Officials have said that combining the schools—with one dean and administration—will save money and improve the ability of what will now be known as Penn State Dickinson Law to compete with other area law schools.
