Wake Up Call: Former Foley Partner Kise on Trump Surgery Break

  • Former Foley & Lardner partner Chris Kise, one of Donald Trump’s “most-trusted and high-profile defense lawyers,” is undergoing planned surgery on April 29 and will be out of pocket until at least May 14. Kise has aided Trump in his ongoing documents case, and his New York civil fraud case. (Newsweek)
  • New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin’s law firm, Rainone Coughlin Minchello, has seen “explosive growth” over the last seven years, raising questions about whether he’s “profiting from his public role.” The firm, which represents local governments across New Jersey, has earned more than $38 million from public contracts since its inception.   • Stradley Ronon has launched a new 10-lawyer office in Long Beach, California, the firm’s ninth office and its first on the West Coast. The team, led by Southern California partner-in-charge Esther Cho, moved from Keesal, Young & Logan. (Stradley Ronon)
  • Akin Gump corporate restructuring associate Taylor Leighton is suing his boyfriend Nathan Greess, a Winston & Strawn associate, for alleged dognapping, in an effort to retrieve his miniature poodle. “Raven is more than a dog to me,” Leighton wrote. “I consider her to be my child.” (The Daily Beast)

  • Teresa M. L. Tate has joined Reed Smith as a partner in the global corporate group in the San Francisco office. She joins from Morrison & Foerster.
  • Zach Hong has joined Perkins Coie as a partner in the intellectual property practice and patent prosecution subgroup in the New York office. He joins from Cleerly, a digital healthcare company.
  • Ian Keefe and George Weavil will join Goodwin‘s private equity practice as partners in the London office.
  • David T. Hayek and Brian A. Paino have joined Hinshaw & Culbertson as partners in the Los Angeles office. Hayek joins from Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani and Paino joins from McGlinchey Stafford.
  • Karin Ecroyd and Scott Smith have joined FORVIS as managing directors in its state and local tax practice in New York and Nashville, respectively.
