The U.S. Senate confirmed former Hawaii Attorney General Mark J. Bennett to a federal appeals court July 10, a tally that saw unusual opposition among Republicans to a Trump judicial nominee.
Bennett is the 22nd federal appeals court nominee confirmed under President Donald Trump. He will serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the nation’s largest appeals court.
In contrast with the looming fight over U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Senate Democrats voted unanimously in favor of Bennett.
A bipartisan group of 72 senators voted to confirm Bennett. But 27 Republicans voted against him.
