A Sixth Circuit panel affirmed a lower court’s ruling that Paramount Global could skirt a proposed class action accusing the media and entertainment platform of violating a federal video privacy law by sharing its subscribers’ personal information with Meta Platforms Inc.

The US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee dismissed plaintiff Michael Salazar’s 2022 lawsuit against Paramount Global in July 2023 when it found that Salazar failed to prove he was a “consumer” under the statute, which is defined as a subscriber of goods or services from a video tape service provider.
