HUD Blocked From Requiring Grantees to Comply With Trump Orders

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is barred for now from forcing grant recipients to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The new grant requirements “far exceed the authority delegated to HUD by Congress and contradict a variety of federal laws in meaningful and consequential ways,” Judge Jon S. Tigar of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said. His Nov. 14 order granted a preliminary injunction to a group of city and county public housing authorities challenging the new requirements.
