Houston Settles Strip Club’s Claims of Lap Dance Ban Favoritism

Houston has settled claims in federal court that it enforced its nude lap dance ban unevenly, unconstitutionally letting only a favored group of adult entertainment businesses operate as true strip clubs.

The lawsuit—which alleged violations of due process, equal protection, and antitrust laws—stemmed from a 2013 litigation settlement between the city and 16 clubs that had challenged the ordinance. The law requires exotic dancers and customers to stay three feet apart.
