Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, a national security hardliner and Donald Trump ally, has won the race to become the third-ranking Republican in Senate leadership.
Cotton defeated Iowa’s Joni Ernst during leadership elections Wednesday to replace John Barrasso as chair of the Republican conference Cotton ranks only behind Barrasso, elected for majority whip, and the newly elected Majority Leader John Thune (S.D.) as the party selects it leaders ahead of Trump’s return to the White House in 2025.
