Cisco Knocks Out Last Patent Tied to Axed $2 Billion Verdict

Cisco Systems Inc. convinced a US Patent and Trademark Office tribunal to invalidate the last of four patents tied to a since-tossed $1.9 billion patent infringement verdict in a lawsuit brought by network security company Centripetal Networks LLC.

A prior patent renders the challenged claims of US Patent No. 9,917,856obvious, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board ruled Thursday.

The decision comes after the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in April affirmed a district court order ruling Cisco didn’t infringe the other three patents underlying the verdict—US Patent Nos. 9,686,193; 9,203,806; and 9,560,176.
