Cisco Knocks Out Trio of Centripetal Patents With Appellate Win

Cisco Systems Inc. convinced the Federal Circuit to uphold a ruling that wiped out three patents it was accused of infringing by Virginia-based network security company Centripetal Networks LLC.

The ruling marks a reversal of fortunes for the two companies. In October 2020, now-deceased Judge Henry Coke Morgan Jr. of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ruled that Cisco owed Centripetal $1.9 billion in damages, which with royalties would have topped a historic $2.66 billion.
