Florida Passes Legislation ‘Aimed at Black Lives Matter’

Florida’s Legislature delivered on one of the top priorities of Gov. Ron DeSantis, voting Thursday to clamp down on protests such as the massive demonstrations seen nationwide after the death of George Floyd.

The measure (H.B. 1) also would make it harder for local governments to cut law enforcement budgets.

DeSantis (R) earlier this year said the Jan. 6 mob attack on the U.S. Capitol showed the need for such legislation in Florida, which he initially suggested last year.
