Worker Heat Protection Measure to Get House Panel Attention (1)

The US House Education and Labor Committee will consider legislation compelling the federal worker safety agency to complete a heat stress regulation as major cities around the world suffer under record-setting temperatures.

The labor panel will consider on July 27 what is known as the Asuncion Valdivia Heat Illness and Fatality Prevention Act (H.R. 2193), sponsored by Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.). The bill calls for the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration to create a federal heat-stress standard, a process the agency began last year but hasn’t said when it will be completed.
