Senate Confirms Two Biden-Nominated Mine Safety Commissioners

The federal panel that hears mine company appeals of safety citations will soon be able to consider cases again.

The US Senate approved by voice vote late Thursday two Biden administration nominees for the US Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission.

They are Mary Lu Jordan—who first joined the panel in 1994 and whose most recent term expired in August 2020—and Timothy Baker, associate general counsel for the United Mine Workers of America. The pair are the first Biden nominees to be named to the commission.

A swearing-in date for the new commissioners hasn’t been announced.
