Amazon Loses Washington State Warehouse Worker Safety Suit (2)

An Amazon.com Inc. lawsuit that sought to slow Washington state’s effort to improve warehouse worker safety has been dismissed by a federal judge.

“Because there is a clear rational basis in protecting worker safety, Plaintiff’s substantive due process challenge must fail,” Judge John Coughenour of the US District Court for the Western District of Washington wrote in an order Tuesday.

The case stems from Washington’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health’s March 2022 citation against Amazon’s distribution center in Kent, Wash., for allegedly exposing the facility’s 2,600 workers to muscle and joint injuries and other ergonomic ills.
