Purex $1.5M Detergent Labeling Deal Gets Tentative Approval

A $1.5 million class settlement got an early nod in a suit alleging Purex “Natural Elements” laundry detergent labels trick consumers into thinking no synthetic ingredients are included.

Henkel Consumer Goods Inc. agreed to the settlement fund and to change the product labels.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York tentatively approved the deal, certified a national settlement class, and set an Aug. 19 final hearing.

The Purex settlement joins others in litigation over “natural” cleaning and personal care products. They include a 2017 settlement in which Jessica Alba’s Honest Co. agreed to pay $7.35 million ...
