Arthrex Knee Implant Injury Suit Advances

Arthrex Inc. won’t get an early exit from a woman’s suit alleging she was hurt by its iBalance knee prosthesis.

Lisa and Terrence Chmil adequately and timely alleged the iBalance devices, which were implanted in Lisa’s knee twice by Dr. Thomas Meade, were defective, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said.

Other medical device makers have also faced suits over knee implants; Zimmer Inc. recently reached a confidential deal to settle litigation over its NexGen knee prosthesis.

The Chmils alleged that iBalance devices implanted by Meade in 2015 and June 2016 failed.
