Whaleco Withdraws Arbitration Request in Class Privacy Case (Correct)

A federal judge Tuesday agreed to withdraw an arbitration request in a case involving an online shopping app allegedly loaded with malware that sends shoppers’ details to the Chinese government.

Whaleco Inc., a subsidiary of PDD Holdings Inc. is accused of violating state and federal privacy statutes through its shopping app Temu. PDD Holdings also owns the e-commerce platform Pinduoduo.

The company asked US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Judge Thomas Durkin to compel the parties into arbitration under the Federal Arbitration Act.
