Waste Management Company Privacy Settlement Finalized by Judge

A $200,000 deal resolving claims that a waste management company violated the Biometric Information Privacy Act received final approval from an Illinois federal judge.

The settlement between GFL Environmental Services USA Inc. and plaintiffs is fair, reasonable, and adequate, Judge Robert M. Dow Jr. wrote in a final approval order filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

GFL and class members—current and former employees—first struck the deal in September. Class members are expected to net $1,500 each minus fees. The class includes about 134 people.
