Utah Teen Social Media Restrictions Raise Compliance Questions

The wireless industry wants to remove mobile subscriber data as a means to verify age under Utah’s first-in-the-nation law requiring parental consent for youth on social media.

That was one of the comments Wednesday at a Utah Department of Commerce’s Division of Consumer Protection hearing on a proposed rule to implement social media restrictions for users under 18. The rule outlines how companies could verify a user’s age by using government IDs, facial analyses, and other methods.
