TransUnion Draws Support at SCOTUS in $40 Million Award Fight

Tech companies and trade associations are lining up behind TransUnion LLC’s fight at the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a $40 million jury award to a class of consumers who had terrorist alerts show up on their credit reports, according to recently filed friend-of-the-court briefs.

TransUnion’s petition for review, granted by the justices in December, argued that not every individual contemplated by the class certification order suffered an actual, concrete injury—a requirement to pursue civil claims in federal court.
