Petco Reaches Deal to Settle Data Breach Negligence Allegations

Petco Animal Supplies Inc. and one of its business units are moving for preliminary approval of a settlement with plaintiffs in a California federal court to resolve allegations it acted negligently and left customer data susceptible to a breach.

If the deal is approved, class members would receive up to $225 for reimbursements of ordinary expenses reasonably tied to the data incident and up to $2,500 per member for reimbursement of extraordinary expenses, according to a motion filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
