Mediant Communications Agrees to Settle Data Breach Lawsuit

Mediant Communications Inc. has agreed to settle a lawsuit over a 2019 data breach in which hackers stole the personally identifiable information of 200,000 individuals from its business email accounts.

Phillip Toretto sued Mediant alleging that the hack was enabled by Mediant’s poor network security, that the company failed to encrypt personal information, and that it failed to adequately notify its customers.

Judge Gregory H. Woods of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York found in February that Toretto adequately pleaded claims for declaratory judgment and negligence, and allowed them to proceed. He dismissed claims brought ...
