Mediant Communications Must Face Some Claims Over Data Breach

Some proposed class action claims in a data breach lawsuit against Mediant Communications survived dismissal, but a Manhattan federal judge barred all claims against Donnelley Financial Solutions, the publicly traded company for which Mediant provided proxy investor communication services.

Phillip Toretto sued after an April 2019 data breach in which hackers stole the personal information of 200,000 individuals from Mediant’s business email accounts. He alleged that the hack was enabled by Mediant’s poor network security, and that the company failed to encrypt personal information and adequately notify its customers.
