GM Driver Data-Sharing Class Actions Consolidated in Georgia

Seven proposed class actions accusing General Motors LLC of sharing customers’ driving data with insurers without permission were centralized in a Georgia federal court.

The lawsuits, which also name as defendants OnStar LLC and LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc., allege that the companies collected and sold drivers data to insurance companies without their consent in violation of federal and state privacy laws. The shared data allegedly led to higher insurance premiums for drivers who say they never opted in to the sharing. Several other pending suits weren’t included in the order.
